After a long week, don’t we just want to rest our tired bodies and go on a escapade. Johor Bahru, South of Malaysia (North of Singapore) is the best choice for the regular Singaporean. With exchange rates pegged at 1SGD to 3.17 MYR, you are definitely making your money work hard for you.
So, my friends and I decided on an impromptu trip to Johor Bahru, Malaysia for some fun and leisure.
Stay: Hotel at KSL Hotel & Resort
– Play Some Escape Rooms
– Go Sing some Karaoke
– Go for some body massage
– Eat famous Bak Kut Teh
Before you go on, you may wish to view a short trailer I did, of what happened during the trip. 🙂 Enjoy!~
Singapore -> Johor Bahru
We were waiting for a bus ride to Johor Bahru (JB) via the Singapore-Malaysia Causeway from Queen’s Street Bus-station. A typical public bus ride would cost SGD$3.30, but we would be left stranded in a heavy traffic jam, in the coach for at least 4 hours.
Hence, we opted for the more expensive option – Taxi. A cross border taxi ride from the Singapore-Johore Taxi Operators’ Association costs approximately SGD$48 per taxi (one taxi can seat 4 persons; about SGD$12 per person.). We managed to breeze through 2 customs’ checkpoints (one one each side of the the border) with only 1hr 30mins of traffic jam and the taxi brought us directly to our hotel.
KSL Hotel and Resort is a quaint hotel that provided our basic needs. We wanted to reserve another hotel – Holiday Villa JB. But as our trip was rather impromptu, the rooms were sold out. Hence we settled for KSL Hotel (the next best thing).
The hotel is situated in the heart of Johor Bahru with a huge shopping centre – KSL Shopping centre for us to shop till we drop and is near to a throw away to other attractions via uber. Checking in was a breeze and they gave us free entry into the dinosaur themed pool.
The rooms were spacious and had a great view! My only complaint was that my friend’s room had a bathtub but mine had none. Which was terrible because we paid the same amount of money for the room. However my room had a awesome view; and he had none. 😂
So I paid $320MYR for the deluxe room. It comes with an en-suite toilet and is really very pretty. Model wannabe shot here. but oops. I failed.

Things to do in JB
Most people would probably go cafe hopping (which was what i did in the past), We decided to try something new. JB has a growing “Escape Room” Scene, Lost in JB is a haunted house themed Escape Room. They currently have 2 outlets in JB, one in Taman Mount Austin and the other one here at Taman Sutera Utama). Solve clues and use your brain juice to solve mysteries, but if you are not so smart, don’t worry. the staff can help you when u call on them.
We spent several hours here, and we managed to clear two of the escape rooms – School Murder (校园凶杀案) and SURVIVOR (丧尸危机). It is $42 MYR per game for each person.

Massages are a real deal in JB. Experience real authentic Thai Massages with Thai masseurs at JB Thai Spa. I was skeptical initially about the massage, but the Thai masseurs really know their stuff and removed kinks in my body via the massages. They offer oil aromatheraphy and many other services (e.g facial, foot massages, etc).
As there were four of us, we opted for a VIP room package which includes a Sauna and a Jacuzzi pool, TV room with sofa and en-suite Toilet. We paid $155MYR for the package per person.
We were told to do the sauna, to release the toxins in our body and dip in the Jacuzzi to release muscle tensions. Both were great and value for money. Followed by the Thai massage which stretched us to the limits, but it was all worth the money as we felt relaxed after the ordeal.

Singing Karaoke is one of my favorite pastime, however, singing karaoke in Singapore is rather expensive. Therefore, singing karaoke in JB is a must. But i shall blog on that part for another time.
Thank you for reading. Hope to have another round of visit to JB soon again.
